Is an Escape Room Safe for Kids on Halloween?
Is an Escape Room Safe for Kids on Halloween
By Shari Sanderson, owner of Number One Escape Room — building escape rooms in Las Vegas since 2017
The safest thing you can do on Halloween in Las Vegas is play an escape room. Not the boring kind of safe — the kind where you can scream your head off and the only people who hear it are the ones you brought with you.
These are the questions I actually get asked on the phone, answered the way I answer them.
Will my kid be too scared of an escape room?
It depends entirely on your kid. At Number One Escape Room in Las Vegas I’ve watched families walk through that door since 2017, and there are basically four kinds of kids. Here’s how to tell which one is yours.
What if my kid loves scary movies?
Then your kid will love a Halloween escape room. The child who watches horror on purpose is the easiest customer I have at Number One Escape Room — book any room we have, including the scary ones, and add a live actor.
What if my kid is the one who jumps out and scares everybody else?
That kid has the best night of anyone who walks into our Las Vegas escape rooms. They love being scared right back. Add a live actor to their game and watch what happens to them.
What if my kid is scared of everything?
Book Witch House at Number One Escape Room. It’s our family room — magic and spells and color, with nothing coming after anyone. A child who is frightened of everything gets the whole Halloween feeling without a single moment they have to brace for.
What if my kid is just a little jittery?
Red Riding Hood is the right room for a jittery kid. It’s a twisted fairytale, and that’s exactly why it works — a spooky room at Number One Escape Room built around characters your child already knows. Familiar faces, gone a little wrong, so there’s always something to hold onto.
It’s our newest room in Las Vegas, completely rebuilt, and it isn’t designed to frighten anyone. The puzzles are the star. A nervous kid walks out of Red Riding Hood proud of themselves, not rattled.
Can you control how scary an escape room is?
Yes — at Number One Escape Room in Las Vegas you decide how frightening your game gets, and most people don’t know that’s possible.
How does choosing the scare level work?
Our live actors are an add-on, not something you’re stuck with. Book a room at Number One Escape Room without an actor and you get atmosphere and puzzles. Add one, and the whole night changes.
Do the actors touch you at Number One Escape Room?
Never. Our actors don’t touch anybody, and they don’t have to — they know how to get you at exactly the right moment. It’s a hundred times more effective than grabbing somebody, and a hundred times less alarming for the parent standing there watching it happen.
Can one group have a scared kid and a fearless one?
That’s the point of letting you choose. At our Las Vegas escape rooms, a nervous eleven-year-old and a sixteen-year-old who swears nothing scares him can come the same night and both get the night they wanted.
Why does Halloween start in September at Number One Escape Room?
Because September is boring. That’s the whole reason — we decided to make it Halloween fun instead, so the entire building in Las Vegas turns over almost two months early.
How long does Halloween season last?
Halloween at Number One Escape Room runs September 6 through November 1, 2026 — every single day, day or night. Not weekends only. Not the last week of October. Every day, for almost two months.
The monsters have arrived, the webs have been cast, and it stays that way until November.
Why is an escape room safer than being out on Halloween night?
Because at Number One Escape Room you’re in a private room with people you know. That’s the whole answer. Nobody’s pushing past you in the dark, nothing is coming at you from the outside world, and your whole group is in one room together the entire time.
Will we be put in a room with strangers?
No. Every game at Number One Escape Room in Las Vegas is private to your group. You are never combined with people you didn’t come with, on Halloween or any other night.
How old do kids have to be to play an escape room in Las Vegas?
At Number One Escape Room the minimum age is 10, and anyone under 16 plays with an adult 18 or older. So the kids are with you the entire game. Not near you — with you.
Does being safe make it less fun?
The opposite. Knowing you’re safe is what lets a family let go. In a private room you can scream, laugh until you can’t breathe, grab onto each other and make a complete scene — and it stays between the people who came with you.
Which escape room should my family pick for Halloween?
Number One Escape Room in Las Vegas runs rooms across the whole range, from magic-and-spells family fun to genuine horror. Here’s which is which.
Which escape room is best for younger kids?
Witch House at Number One Escape Room. It’s bursting with magic and it’s the easiest yes for a mixed-age group — a nine-year-old and their grandmother have the same good time in there.
Which escape room is best for a nervous kid?
Red Riding Hood. It’s our newest room in Las Vegas, a twisted fairytale built on characters kids already recognize, and it’s spooky without being built to frighten anyone.
Which rooms at Number One Escape Room are actually scary?
The Cabin and The Shed. In The Cabin the air gets thick and you know somebody is creeping around watching you. The Shed is just perfectly frightening.
What is Suzy’s Cell?
Suzy’s Cell is a psychedelic prison at Number One Escape Room in Las Vegas, where you break out through secret passages. Watch the dummies as you move around that room — their eyes track you. Always watching, always waiting.
What’s the weirdest escape room in Las Vegas?
Voodoo Lounge at Number One Escape Room, and it isn’t close. It’s the only rotating platform escape room in the world, and The Escaperoomers named it the craziest escape room in Las Vegas. It’s for the person who doesn’t really want to be scared but absolutely wants something crazy.
What if my teenagers want something genuinely terrifying?
Send them to Don’t Look Under the Bed at Third Gate Escape, our second Las Vegas location. It’s the far end of everything we do, and you can book it through Number One Escape Room.
Will we get good Halloween photos at an escape room?
The best Halloween photos you’ve ever taken. I’m not hedging on that one. The decor at Number One Escape Room is fully immersive — this isn’t a few pumpkins by the front door, it’s every corner of the building dressed for the season.
What’s the best Halloween costume idea for a group?
Book a room like Witch House at Number One Escape Room and have your entire group show up in costume. All of you in witch hats.
Something happens about ten minutes in. Everybody stops being self-conscious, and then you’re cackling and hunting for secret doors and losing it laughing at each other in the middle of a spell room. The pictures come out unbelievable.
